Big News Brewing: Leadership Team Transition

July 20, 2025

We are very excited to share some important news regarding our Leadership Team.

Dan Kenary, who co-founded Harpoon nearly 40 years ago with two college friends, will be transitioning from the role of Chief Executive Officer to the role of Co-Founder and President of Barrel One Collective. From earning the first brewing permit in Massachusetts, to hosting our first festival, to tasting and perfecting the first beer to come off the line (along with several others throughout the years), Dan has been here through it all. His vision, heart, and leadership have shaped who we are, and we are excited to see what is to come in his new role as he continues to support the mission, innovation and culture that have defined his leadership since the beginning. Thank you, Dan, for building a company that’s always stayed true to its roots and for always prioritizing people, impact, great beer(!), and community above all else.

As Dan steps into his new position, Nathaniel Davis will be transitioning into the role of Chief Executive Officer of Barrel One Collective. Since joining the team in 2023 as Chief Operating and Strategy Officer, Nathaniel has brought thoughtful leadership, deep industry experience, and a bold vision for what’s ahead.

Born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, but Nathaniel is no stranger to New England. Both of his parents were born in Boston, and his direct relatives trace back to passengers aboard The Anne and The Mayflower. Nathaniel’s journey in beer has taken him all over the world: from juggling as a flair bartender in London, to pouring pints and playing in the house band at the world’s northernmost brewpub in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. At 19 he won a beer-pouring contest at a Belgian brewery, and in 2012 he received honorary knighthood in the Belgian Knights of the Brewer’s Mash Staff.

A passionate traveler, Nathaniel also enjoys exploring rainforests, jungles, mountains and remote beaches with his wife, Nancy, and their five kids.

This leadership transition reflects building on our proud past and looking ahead to what’s next. Please join us in congratulating Nathaniel and Dan on their new roles.
